The Whiteman Additions

Two namesake additions connect the Goodwater-based W.J. Whiteman to the physical growth of Haworth and Idabel.

Haworth before 1917

Contemporary sources show W.J. involved in Haworth banking, cotton processing and waterworks by 1911 and as president of First National Bank of Haworth by 1914. Whiteman Addition to Haworth is documented by 1917, with W.J. appearing among property holders inside the addition.

Idabel by 1919

Municipal notices in 1919 treat Whiteman Addition as an established part of Idabel and include its blocks in sewer-infrastructure planning. Blocks are numbered through at least 28. Later historic-preservation documentation places the 1936 Idabel National Guard Armory on Lots 1–4, Block 7, Whiteman Addition.

The missing documents

The original recorded plats are still essential. They should establish filing dates, proprietors, surveyors, dedication language, parent legal descriptions and whether W.J. and Mattie signed as owners. Until those plats are recovered, this site distinguishes the documented existence of the additions from the still-unverified details of their creation.
