Unmarked historical reproduction supplied by the Whiteman family. The separate biographical entry below the photograph is unrelated to W.J. Whiteman and is not used as evidence in this project.

What the image supports

The photograph's own printed caption identifies W.J. Whiteman among the men pictured and associates the group with McCurtain County's first-grand-jury era. Roy Whiteman, W.J.'s great-grandson, independently identifies W.J. as the man in the front row, second from right. The material dates the photograph between 1907 and 1910.

What is not yet proved

The original McCurtain County District Court empanelment order or jury roster has not yet been recovered. Until it is, the exact jury term and exact photograph date remain open research questions. The identification is based on the printed historical caption plus family identification, not on facial-recognition analysis.

Research target

The next step is to locate the earliest publication or original print and compare its caption against the District Court journal, grand-jury venire and empanelment record from the first court terms after Oklahoma statehood.
